DESCRIPTION

The Pedestal is a sculptural work, born from a search to make the familiar image of a simple wooden beam or pedestal completely disappear through the smallest possible intervention.

I achieved this by making two carefully positioned cuts in the solid beam. The Pedestal can be rotated in any direction, revealing a different character from every angle. It can be displayed both vertically and horizontally.

What makes the Pedestal distinctive is its construction and finish. The almost obsessive attention to detail and the complete mastery of the material give the object its strength.

The Pedestal can exist purely as a sculptural object, but it can also function as an artwork in its own right or as a pedestal for another artwork, raising the question of which of the two ultimately becomes the artwork. At the same time, its sculptural presence does not exclude functionality, allowing it to serve equally as a sculptural seating object or a low table.
